LEWISTON – Ray and Anita Nadeau of Wales were honored at a surprise anniversary luncheon on April 15 at Marco’s Restaurant, in celebration of their 35th wedding anniversary.

The two Lewiston natives, who have been longtime residents of Wales, were married April 17, 1971, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston.

The party was hosted by their three children, Scott Nadeau and his wife, Melinda, of Litchfield, Jeff Nadeau and his wife, Stacy, of Wales and Ross Nadeau, also of Wales, and by Anita Nadeau’s brother, Lucien Mathieu, and his wife, Marj Patrick. The couple’s grandchildren were present also, MaKayla, Abigail, Hannah and Travis Nadeau.

Guests included Mrs. Nadeau’s mother, Theresa Mathieu of Lewiston. Mrs. Nadeau’s father was the late Emilien Mathieu. Mr. Nadeau’s two brothers and seven of his nine sisters were part of the celebration. Their parents were the late Alphonse and Gloria Nadeau.

Decorations included photo albums of their wedding, copies of their wedding invitation, Easter lilies and a recent 8-by-10-inch photo of the couple, framed by a wide mat that guests signed. A two-tier cake featured real pink roses, since pink roses were in Mrs. Nadeau’s wedding bouquet. The couple cut the cake with the decorative knife they used at their wedding.

When they arrived, Scott and Jeff Nadeau pinned a corsage and boutonniere of pink roses on their parents.

Mr. Nadeau is a material coordinator at Panolam Industries in Auburn, formerly Pioneer Plastics. A Marine veteran, he is a member of the American Legion in Sabattus.

Mrs. Nadeau is social services coordinator at the Auburn Residential Care Center in Auburn. They are parishioners of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus.
