While driving in Lewiston, I have come very close to getting struck by cars, more than once, due to drivers talking on cell phones.

I recently reported a driver to the Lewiston Police. I was driving straight when she pulled out of a parking spot. The cars almost collided. She didn’t even stop, just kept right on talking on a cell phone. I stopped and beeped the horn and she glanced at me and just kept going. She never looked when she pulled out into traffic and did not have a blinker on.

I followed her car while my boyfriend was on the phone to the police. She finally stopped and a policeman came to talk with us. She told the policeman that I didn’t have my blinker on when she pulled out – but I wasn’t turning. She also said that we had followed her and called her names, which wasn’t true. I also told the policeman about how she had turned left on a red light.

The policeman told us he did not care about that and it was illegal to follow someone – that we were supposed to get the plate number.

The policeman never even asked to see her license and acted as if he did not want to hear about the incident.

Why didn’t the police dispatcher tell my boyfriend it was illegal to follow someone? He knew we were.

Something should be done about driving while talking on cell phones.
