PORTLAND – Gene Hewey, 52, of Norway, died at Central Maine Medical Center on Saturday, June 19.
He was born in Lewiston on April 12, 1954, the son of Ellery and Ruth Flaherty Hewey. He attended school in Poland and graduated from Oxford Hills.
Gene was employed at the Big Rig Shop as a mechaniac. Prior, he worked as a woodman before driving trucks.
He enjoyed hunting and going camping with family and friends.
Gene is survived by his son, Jon Mathew, currently stationed at Fort Cill, Okla., and grandson, Tyler Taker of Brunswick; son, Paul Douglas and his girlfriend, Samantha, of South Paris, and his grandson, Kyle, grandaughter, Meaghan, and Samantha’s son, Cole, of Oxford; son, Ellery Gene and his wife, Janice, of Auburn, and granddaughter Pilar; brother, Bernard and Glenna Hewey of Oxford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeased by the mother of his children, Candy Newey; and his parents, Ellery and Ruth Flaherty Hewey; sisters, Shirley, Diane, Marilyn and Linda; half sister, Cora; and half brother, Lawrence.
