LEWISTON – Sabattus Street will be closed from the intersection of Wood and Nichols streets for at least two days and perhaps three days beginning today for stormwater/sewer line repairs.

During the repairs, traffic will be detoured around the area. Only local traffic will be allowed on Sabattus Street from Ash to Horton Street. Owners and residents of property in the immediate vicinity of the work are being contacted to coordinate access to and from their properties during the repairs.

A brick stormwater/sewer line running up the middle of Sabattus Street has failed and needs to be replaced. The failed line is 10 to 15 feet deep, requiring considerable excavation to remove the old line and replace it. Due to the heavy rains and showers forecasted through this weekend and the stormwater flows that result in the line, work is not scheduled to begin until early today.

Replacement of the pipe and manhole and backfill of the excavation may not be completed until Wednesday with repaving of the road to occur after that.
