This is in response to the front-page article June 3 about the Somalis picketing in front of the Androscoggin County Jail, holding signs and making accusations of police brutality.
That man was arrested and detained just like any other person would be, regardless of nationality. I’m sure there have been instances where local people have died in police custody, but there were no protests against the people trying to protect us.
For the Somali community to go so far as to complain about how their claims of cars being broken into and such are not being taken seriously is ridiculous. There are more pressing problems – crack houses, methamphetamine labs, drunken drivers – for the local departments to deal with. And that goes for any community, not just theirs.
For them to come here and complain about rights, freedom and equality, yet make themselves stand out in such a way that angers a lot of people, is wrong.
I would like for them to stop complaining and stop trying to create conspiracy theories about everything.
Instead of constantly working against the community, perhaps they should try and blend in, adapt to the way of life in this country, the country they have chosen to live in.
