NEW GLOUCESTER – By a 3-to-1 margin, voters Tuesday approved a $19 million budget for SAD 15 for 2006-2007.

Both towns passed the seven articles in the district referendum vote to fund schools.

Article 2 that required voters appropriate $16,557,333 for essential programs and services with $7,232,540 in local contribution passed 999-337.

Article 3 OK’d raising and appropriating $97,000 for debt service, 983-347.

Article 4 raised $1,152,482 in additional local funds for school purposes passed 549-264.

Article 5 authorized the school board to spend $19,003,987, 925-373.

Article 6 to fund adult education passed 651-452.

Voters approved appropriating $150,000 from the ending balance of school operating funds for 2005-2006 to add to a capital reserve account 942-345.

Finally, a vote of 1,032 to 265 allows the district to spend federal, state and private grants and other forms of aid received in 2006-2007.

Superintendent Victoria Burns said by telephone, “I am extremely grateful to the voters in Gray and New Gloucester for their support.”

The board will ratify the vote on Wednesday at a special district meeting.
