AUBURN – Police said a man who backed a car through the side of a North River Road business Wednesday did so because he was drunk and angry at a former girlfriend.

Joseph Johnson, 27, of 31 Vining St., was arrested on multiple charges after the 4:30 p.m. crash that left the Ford four-door lodged halfway in the side of Crusader Tomato.

Johnson was charged with aggravated criminal mischief, driving while intoxicated, driving without a license and violating conditions of bail.

He was arrested near the back of the building at 215 North River Road minutes after the car slammed through the front. Johnson was examined by emergency paramedics before he was taken to a Lewiston hospital and later, to jail. He remained there late Wednesday night.

Nobody inside the Crusader Tomato was hurt. An estimate of damage was not immediately known.
