PARIS – Most interest in Saturday’s annual meeting warrant seems to be about Article 2, which asks if the town will provide a sidewalk in conjunction with paving High Street from the railroad tracks to the Maine Veterans Home.
Last year, voters rejected funding the project, which was estimated to cost $450,000.
The sidewalk coincides with the construction of the Paris Elementary School on High Street. The $12 million building for 450 students is scheduled to open in February 2007.
SAD 17 Superintendent Mark Eastman strongly urged parents to vote for the project in a letter sent home with students this year.
Article 3 asks for authority for selectman to enter into a 10-year lease/purchase agreement for a new fire engine costing up to $300,000. The first payment will not be due until November 2007.
The proposed budget of $5,438,188 is $282,131 more than this fiscal year. Town Manager Sharon Jackson said, “A major portion of the increase is for road reconstruction.”
The meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the fire station.
