I have no ax to grind against anyone at the Sun Journal, but I have called numerous times to various sports editors through the years concerning the absence of harness racing results. I have even asked for second-day publishing rather instead of no results at all.

I have been given various reasons: the tracks did not call in the results, there was more important news, or there wasn’t enough room.

It is a sad day in Maine when our racing industry has to take a back seat and be omitted when there is room for sports history, transactions, or the French Open results, which could be published another day.

I am not speaking just for myself, but for everyone involved in harness racing – owners, drivers, trainers, grooms, fans or even members of the Maine Harness Racing Commission.

I am not able to go to the track, so I rely on the Sun Journal in order to follow the results from race to race. The paper is my source. I enjoy handicapping each race, then reviewing the results, just as anyone enjoys doing the crossword puzzle. Try leaving out the crossword or cartoons and see how many complaints there are.

I do not understand why our industry has to be the one selected to be omitted when space is a problem. And, in this day of computer technology, there should be no reason race results are not available to the paper.
