Lewiston – Robert C. Herrick, 86, of Orchard Street, Auburn died unexpectedly Monday, June 12, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Haverhill, Mass. on Feb. 28, 1920, the son of Frank and Charlotte Herrick.

He proudly served his country in the Army Air Force as a navigator and instrument flying instructor during World War II.

The family moved to Maine where he met his wife Virginia “Shirley” Herrick, and as of June 27, they would have been married 53 years.

He worked for Commerce Die as a machinist making shoe dies.

He loved his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed the ocean immensely and also traveling.

He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and cat Homer.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Herrick of Auburn; daughter, Donna Seward and husband, Jim, of Exeter; sister, Marjorie Higgins of Florida; grandson, Thomas Clifford and wife, Jennifer, of Newport; granddaughters, Crystal Clifford of Dexter, Melissa Garnier and husband, Ed, of Bucksport; great-grandsons, Hayland Garnier and Aaron Clifford; great-granddaughter, Jasmine Garnier; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Malcolm Chard; and numerous aunts, uncles and nephews.
