BRUNSWICK – Timberhead Music artist Francis Doughty, a fingerstyle instrumental guitarist who has been playing since age 17, will give several performances this month.

He will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Maine Street Art, 141A Maine St., Brunswick; at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at McMahon’s Rockport Grille, Route 1 in Rockport; and at 8 p.m. Monday, June 26, at Slates Restaurant, 169 Water St., Hallowell. Tickets are $12 for the Brunswick show. The Rockport show is free; and admission to the Slates performance is $10.

He will also be an in-studio guest Friday, June 23, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on “Us Folk” hosted by Chris Darling, WMPG 90.9 and 104.1 FM (Portland); and at 1 p.m. on “Stay Tuned” hosted by Shawn Henderson, WSCA (Portsmouth, N.H.).

Inspired by the likes of Leo Kottke, John Fahey and a wide range of classical music, Doughty has used those influences to develop his unique voice on the guitar, which ranges from thrilling to the haunting.

Doughty’s guitar-playing is riveting, but it is his masterful songwriting that makes him stand out. His shows present a mix of his own songs, several classic covers by Kottke, as well as arrangements of traditional or jazz pieces.

Doughty grew up in Roslindale, Mass., and studied classical composition at the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
