OTISFIELD – The stage is set for the annual town meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, in the Otisfield Community School.

Among the 68 articles is one asking if residents want to adopt a town manager form of government. If approved, it would become effective in June 2007.

Selectmen Hal Ferguson said, “Without exception, we don’t feel overburdened. We don’t have a problem with our workload.”

But a lengthy report on town management concluded that the town is growing and ready for a change in its form of government.

Town managers typically oversee departments such as police and public works. Otisfield has neither. The town elects its road commissioner, so a town manager would not be responsible for that position, either.

The population of Otisfield is less than 1,800.

Few attended an open forum two weeks ago to discuss the issue.

The majority of Saturday’s articles relate to budget items. Ferguson said there is no increase in the overall budget from last year.

Article 3 asks voters to choose a school board member for a three-year term.

Article 60 asks voters to raise $4,000 for the Pleasant Lake/Parker Pond Association to help fight the spread of milfoil and other invasive plants.
