BETHEL – Townspeople have voted in a new law requiring dog owners to pick up after their pooches if their dog fouls property other than their own.

At town meeting Wednesday night, voters accepted all the articles on the warrant except one asking voters to expand the police fleet from two cruisers to four.

Town Manager Scott Cole wanted to increase the number of cars to ensure police had reliable vehicles, but it would have been more costly.

Town Clerk Christen Mason said 107 people attended.

Residents passed a new noise ordinance, too, increasing the allowable noise level for bars.

Voters also decided to amend the building construction ordinance to require building projects costing more than $25,000 to take care of their waste.
