WALES – One town official opposed to school budget cuts took action Wednesday night by passing a petition for a re-vote.

Town Clerk Melanie Newton Burgess said she needed only 15 signatures to request that the school funding question be brought again to voters.

“If 90 percent of the people that were here tonight were here on Saturday, we wouldn’t be here,” said Burgess, who is also the school secretary. “They are taking away the most important programs to our children”

Once the petition is complete, she will submit it to selectmen and see where it goes from there. Selectmen’s Chairman Paul Burgess signed the petition. “I wanted cuts, but this was too much,” he said. The board will look into what actions must be taken to bring the school budget issue back before the town.
