BUCKFIELD – Residents at the annual town meeting Wednesday, June 21, will vote on a 2006-2007 budget that reflects an 8-cent increase in the tax rate. The total is $2,620,254.22, including county assessment and SAD 39 spending.
Buckfield’s share of SAD 39 expenses and its Oxford County assessment reflect an increase of $1.40 in the tax rate.
The summer roads account reflects an increase of approximately $117,000 over last year. Town manager and Road Commissioner Glen Holmes said no paving was done last year and officials want to get back to fixing roads.
The town is also looking to purchase a new ambulance. Now that patients are paying for the service, no tax money will be involved, Holmes said.
The Fire Department is asking to buy a new firetruck using all of the firetruck replacement reserve and borrowing up to $200,000. Payments would not begin until July 2007, and current firetruck payments would continue, so no tax increase is needed, the manager said.
The total budget is $2,620,254.22 including county taxes and the school budget. The net to be raised by the town through taxation is $1,629,970.69.
There are 63 articles on the warrant.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Buckfield Junior-Senior High School.
