LEWISTON – George “Sam” W. Wright Sr., 81, passed away after a long illness at Marshwood Center for Health & Rehabilitation with his loving family by his side on June 16.
Sam was born on June 25, 1924, in Sabattus, a son of the late Arthur and Janet “Jenny” (Forrest) Wright. He was educated in the Sabattus School system, and later went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He went on to work for Stevens Hardware for more than 25 years. This made him very well-known in town and respected by many. He met and married the love of his life and his best friend, Vada M. Cloutier on July 10, 1948. They would be celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary next month.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He greatly enjoyed playing cards with his family, especially UNO. He enjoyed the outdoors. It brought him his joys of fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed bowling. He was a member of the Harry J. Conway American Legion Post 135 in Sabattus.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vada M. Wright of Sabattus; his three children, George W. Wright Jr. and wife, Irene, of Greene, John R. Wright and wife, Diane, of Sabattus and Grace R. Wright of Sabattus; his two sisters and two brothers, Mildred Darling and Shirley Duquette, Wallace and Robert “Bob” Wright, all of Sabattus; his four grandchildren, Matthew, Keith, Derek and Nicole Wright; a great-grandson, Gage Wright; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, James, Albion and Phillip Wright; and three sisters, Margaret Burnham, Mary Kastel and Edna Wright.
A sincere thank-you and appreciation goes out to all those who helped care, love and support George “Sam” and his family at Marshwood.
