I thank the city of Lewiston and especially the Youth Advisory Council for their efforts in the bid to win the 2006 All-America City Award recently held in Anaheim, Calif. It was an honor and privilege to represent my company, Northeast Bank, and join the delegation of diverse people from throughout the city in telling our story.
Northeast Bank is proud to have played a major role in the Southern Gateway, a place where we saw opportunity in this vital corridor to the downtown. Having worked in the Lewiston-Auburn area for over 10 years, I’ve witnessed first-hand the “can-do” spirit together with the heart and will to persevere through some of the most exciting and challenging times. From following in other Maine cities’ shoes, to emerging as a true leader in its own right, Lewiston has a great story to tell.
Being designated an All-America City is a significant undertaking. Emerging as one of the finalists, Lewiston can be proud to have participated in the oldest and most respected community recognition program in the country.
In today’s world, we are quick to give criticism and not acknowledge great accomplishments. It is refreshing that this award program recognizes communities like Lewiston that demonstrate leadership, vision, and collaboration to deliver creative results and real value to its citizens and businesses.
We all have a responsibility to make things better than we found them. In Lewiston, it’s happening every day.
Linda Varrell, director of public relations and communications, Northeast Bank
