PORTLAND – Harold L. Woodcock, 81, of Kingfield, died early Saturday morning, June 17, at the Maine Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Somerville, Mass., a son of the Rev. George Arthur and Susan Pearl (Durrell) Woodcock. He was educated in Kingfield schools and graduated from Stanley High School in 1942.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Harold served during World War II after high school and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to Kingfield after the service and worked in the woods and later for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier for the Kingfield and Carrabassett area.
On Nov. 15, 1952, he married Naida Loucks in Kingfield, where they made their home and raised a family.
He was very involved in the community through his membership in the Norton Wuori American Legion Post 61 in Kingfield, the Mt. Abram Masonic Lodge, SAD 58 school board for 20 years, Rural Letter Carriers Association, Kingfield Volunteer Fire Department, several terms on the Kingfield Board of Selectmen, and the Carrabassett Fish and Game, when it was active. He also was a registered Maine guide.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, time spent with family at camp on the Tufts Pond Rd and watching the Cooking Network.
He is survived by his wife, Naida of Kingfield; a son, Bentley and his wife, Barbara, of Kingfield; two daughters, Candice and Yvonne Woodcock, both of Kingfield; three granddaughters, Lakeesha, Samantha and Lori of Kingfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Woodcock.
