BUCKFIELD – Town Manager Glen Holmes brought bids to the selectmen for a bathroom addition to the Zodiac Long Free library and a handicap ramp. The bids were much higher than expected, with the low bid from Camolli Construction.

The library fund has $15,000, and the bid was $21,750. Library Board Chairman Virgil Tilton will be asking the town for an additional $7,500 at the annual town meeting Wednesday night.

Renovations include a septic system, as the building currently has no public facility and the aged system they have must be pumped yearly.

Any action was tabled until after the vote at the town meeting determines if money will be available for the work to be done.

Holmes said the solid waste budget must be increased because Archie’s revised price list is higher due to fuel increases, and the price per bin was not calculated properly initially. There will be a $11,079 increase, with $3,877.65 being Sumner’s share. Holmes said this will result in a .05 per thousand increase in the mill rate.

The board voted to cancel the July 3 meeting and reconvene on July 18. They also voted to extend all committee appointments until July 18.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Holmes thanked Oscar Gammon for his nine years of dedicated work as a selectman for the town of Buckfield. Gammon then thanked the residents for allowing him to serve them. Gammon lost his seat to Philip McAlister in the June 13 election.
