WILTON – A midafternoon fender-bender resulted in $7,000 damage to two vehicles Tuesday, according to Wilton officer Terry Warren.
“Police Chief Wayne Gallant responded to a fender-bender at the bottom of Burgess Hill, about 15:15,” Warren said. “Being as trained as the chief is in this type of incident, he immediately assessed the situation and said nobody was injured,” he quipped.
Warren said 32-year-old Marilyn Ireland of Newport was turning left from Depot Street onto Route 2 in her 1998 Jeep Wagoneer when the accident happened. Ireland pulled out in front of 48-year-old Wilton resident Randall Oliver’s 1994 Toyota pickup, Warren said.
Ireland was “going to make a left turn but didn’t quite get there,” Warren said. Oliver swerved and hit her vehicle in the front, not in the door, he added.
Ireland’s view of oncoming traffic was obstructed by another driver, Warren said
Gallant assessed $3,000 damage to Oliver’s truck and $4,000 to Ireland’s Jeep, but there were no injuries. Ireland’s 2-year-old child riding with her didn’t even wake up, Warren said.
Warren said members of the Fire Department who came to the scene “did a wonderful job, just a wonderful job.”
