I am honored to have participated in the All-America City Awards program in Anaheim.

Lewiston was an eyelash away from being one of 10 cities selected. While there, I had an opportunity not only to participate in our presentation, but to observe presentations of the other finalists. Each of the finalists had a remarkable story.

Everyone is aware of the progress Lewiston has made over the past several years, and where the city is headed in the future. Not to have been selected as one of the recipients in no way overshadows those accomplishments.

What most impressed me, however, were the Lewiston High School Youth Advisory Council students. The judges literally gasped in unison when we took the stage and Jim Bennett announced that the students prepared the majority of the script. These students were outstanding ambassadors of the city of Lewiston. Their focus and maturity gives me great comfort in knowing we have such strong leaders waiting in the wings.

Each of us on the trip feels fortunate to have been in the forefront touting the Lewiston story. All of us realize that without the efforts of many diverse groups of people and groups, Lewiston would not have gained nationwide notoriety and been selected as a finalist. From those who volunteer their service on nonprofit committees and boards, to our elected officials and the city administration, we owe them a big round of applause for their commitment to making this great city even greater.
