PARIS – Anyone looking for a way to meet people while exploring the Norway/Paris area is invited to the “I Love Paris” walk on Sunday, June 25.

Sponsored by Healthy Oxford Hills, the Oxford Hills Trails Committee and the Southern Maine Volkssport Association, the event will include three mapped trails through Norway and Paris with many opportunities to visit local gardens, shops and restaurants.

Two of the walks are 10K (about six miles) long, and should take the average walker two to three hours to complete. One of these longer walks features a stop at Norway’s Ordway Grove, while the other explores the historic Paris Hill area.

A third walk is 5K (about three miles) long and allows an opportunity to relax at McLaughlin Garden in Paris.

The three walks are part of the American Volkssport Association’s Walking Europe in the US program. Participants are challenged with completing 20 walks in towns or cities which share a name with a city in Europe. The program includes walks in 37 states, including the communities of Florence, Wis., Athens, Texas, and Naples, Fla.

Walkers don’t need to attempt 20 events to participate in Sunday’s walks. Everyone is welcome, including those who would rather run or jog. Pets must be leashed.

There is no fee, unless a walker wants AVA credit for the event. Walkers should register at the Oxford County Courthouse between 11a.m. and 2 p.m., and return to the courthouse by 5 p.m. Maps will be provided, but the walks are self-guided.
