NORWAY – Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Service M. Patricia Cook has announced that five employees of Western Maine Health have been awarded scholarships for further education by the Stephens Volunteer Services Council.
Scholarship recipients for the spring were Heather Galasso of Stephens Memorial Hospital; Sarah Berry, Stephens Memorial Hospital; Amy Bergonzi, Market Square Health Care Center; Nicole Farnum, Stephens Memorial Hospital; and Janene Westberry, Market Square Health Care Center.
Stephens Volunteer Services awards scholarships twice a year after reviewing the applications of eligible employees. In the past two years the Stephens Volunteer Services Scholarship Committee has awarded $13,000 in scholarships to employees for job-related further education.
Stephens Volunteer Services is comprised of volunteers who staff the hospital coffee shop, provides reading material carts for patients, maintains the courtyard gardens, staffs the thrift shop and volunteer in a variety of departments, including greeting at the front door. The members raise money through efforts in the thrift shop and coffee shop, and the Christmas tree light fundraiser. Over a three-year period, Stephen Volunteer Services contributed $250,000 to the Capital Campaign for Exceptional Care.
