LIVERMORE FALLS – Loren Thomas Briggs, 76, died Wednesday, June 21, at his home on Moose Hill after being in failing health for several years.

He was born in Harrison, Feb. 26, 1930, the son of Myron and Mildred Ward Briggs. He attended schools in Harrison until moving to Dixfield and attended school there while living with his uncle and aunt, Elroy and Hazel Briggs Francis.

He was married to the former Cora E. Crouse on Dec. 25, 1952 in Dixfield. They became the parents of five children. He also was the primary caregiver for his mother from his late teens.

He was a woodsman and farmer, construction and mill worker before moving his family to Livermore Falls in 1957, to assist his brother-in-law, Fred M. Crouse, on his farm.

He continued his working career, often holding two jobs, at Fournier’s Hardware in Livermore Falls, the Wilton Tannery and G. H. Bass, and retiring on disability in 1984, from the highway department of the town of Livermore Falls.

He was a member and longtime trustee of First Baptist Church and a member of New Norland Grange. His passions were hard work, his home and his family. A talented and hard working jack-of-all trades and master of many, he remodeled a small home to house his growing family, often working far into the night to complete projects. He enjoyed bowling and sightseeing and realized a lifelong dream of owning a motorcycle.

An outgoing person, he always had a story for every occasion and delighted in sharing his memories with one and all. He especially enjoyed the Briggs family reunions that were held for many summers at Moose Hill. He was a giving person, always willing to help, be it a friend, a neighbor or a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Cora; three children; one son, Thomas, his wife, Maureen and sons, Michael and Cory of Winslow; two daughters, M. Elaine Briggs of Wayne and fianc, Steven Hall, of Augusta; Marsha Briggs-Giggie and fianc, Tony Reardon, of Livermore Falls and their sons, Gregory Giggie II of Orono and Philip Reardon, a U.S. Marine Corps recruit; one brother, Dale M. and Phyllis, of Dixfield; one sister, Phyllis Goodwin-Stanton of Bridgton; one half-brother, Merrill and Juanita Briggs, of Old Orchard Beach; two half-sisters, Clara Briggs Varney and husband, Al, of South Harpswell and Sharon Briggs Junkins and husband, Rev. William, of Freeport; and a special cousin, Florence “Skeet” Wright of North Jay, who was like a sister to him.

He was predeceased by two sons, Michael in 1986 and Phillip in 1984; a granddaughter, Autum Lee Cox in 1989; a brother, Sgt. Melvin Briggs in 1966; infant siblings, Elwood and Betty Ann 1934; and a stepbrother, Walter Asselin in 2006.
