FARMINGTON – Sandra Elaine Dews, 55, of Forest Lake Road, Cumberland, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 20, in Farmington.
She was the daughter of the late Philip E. and Elaine C. (Smith) Plummer and grew up in Westbrook, where she was a 1969 graduate of Westbrook High School.
She drove the Hilltop Nursery School bus and taught all of the children songs. She volunteered for Westbrook Rescue, along with her parents for four years. After moving to Cumberland, she ran a home daycare when her children were in school, so she would be home when they got off the bus. She was also employed by Bercon and then Allen’s Farm for 20 years, where she made many friends, and the customers would come in for her homemade specials of the week.
She was a great cook and knew recipes by heart. She enjoyed sewing clothing, doll clothes, graduation quilts and fixing hems for anyone. She also enjoyed entertaining at home, usually with too many people to fit in her house. She was always giving, and family meant a lot to her, as she took care of and helped raise her grandchildren. She loved to have them around and always had a special treat for all the kids. She was a member of the Maine Antique Tractor Club and loved to volunteer at the Cumberland Fair.
Surviving are her husband, Chuck Dews; daughters, Angel Christensen of Old Orchard Beach and Emily St. Thomas and her husband, John, of Presque Isle; sons, Lt. Michael Lorraine II, USN, and his wife, Carrie, of Washington, Jamie Peters of Gray and Adam Dews and his wife, Amber, of Cumberland; three grandsons, Kyle, Truen and Christian; a sister, Linda Harvey of Florida; brothers, Ralph Plummer of Pennsylvania, Peter Plummer of Gorham and Darrel Plummer of Westbrook and their families.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Dana Christensen.
