WATERFORD – The Waterford Library has announced the opening of the “Eight Wonders of Waterford Flat Orienteering Discovery Trail” treasure hunt.
In hunting for treasure, participants will learn how to use their individual steps, or paces, to estimate distance traveled and use a compass to follow a bearing, These are also useful skills for exploring the woods of Maine.
Those interested may call the library to book a treasure hunt reservation. Participants should allow from two to three hours for the journey.
The hunt may be undertaken any time the library is open and the weather is fair between May 1 and Oct. 31. Parties of up to six people are welcome.
Kids are welcome to participate with their adults and will be able to find and keep loot.

Library hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to noon Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The event has been developed with the support of the Oxford Hills One Book One Community program.
