I, for one, am very displeased concerning the budget problem that the leaders of the town of Poland have created in their lackadaisical governing of this town. We have voted for members to watch for our best interest and they obviously have been sleeping. Where are all their fair speeches of protecting and guarding the townspeople?
Now, what I see, is that residents of the town are going to be held responsible for a $2.7 million mistake. What town officials want to do is punish taxpayers for their mistake by raising taxes.
I do not feel sorry for those who did not take their job seriously enough to watch the town’s business, as they stated, pledged or promised they could do.
Maybe it is time we put some people in the offices that are for the people and have the ability to do the job that is required. It is obvious that those who are in the offices now have blundered many times over, and have not the expertise to do the jobs right.
Why are the ones who made the mistake not responsible for figuring out another avenue to fix their mistake without punishing the whole town? I certainly did not have anything to do with this error. Why should I pay for it?
I trusted the town manager, board members, selectmen and other officials to do their jobs.
I don’t want them looking in my pocket to fix their mistake. They are accountable for the mistakes.
