RUMFORD – If familiarity breeds success, then Rich Allen is in the right place, after having been named the girls varsity basketball coach at Mountain Valley High School.
Allen has already stepped in with both feet running and has a strong vision for the Falcons program. The new mentor has coached a majority of the players in junior varsity and does not anticipate any problems in running the whole show.
“Not dramatically,”Allen said. “Both the JV and varsity ran similar programs, with mine being a little more focused on defensive intensity. But many of the kids have already played for me in the past, so I see the transition going very smoothly.”
Allen ran a two-week camp for the high school players, who each had an opportunity to further tweak individual skills. Additionally, he has also instituted a second camp for the younger girls entering the system. These camps were designed to teach the expectations with-in the system and develop chemistry between the players.
