BOSTON – Harvard Divinity School has announced the recipients of its 2006 distinguished Alumni/ae Awards, which includes Gwendolyn Moore of Topsham, winner of the First Decade Award. She was honored at the school’s alumni/ae dinner on June 6 at the Harvard Club of Boston.

Moore is the founder of the Gwen Moore Children of China Fund, which benefits children and families in Luodian County in Guizhou Province, China, by supporting education for children, advancing literacy in adults, providing training for good health, and creating sustainable economic initiatives through micro-enterprise.

She began her career in management consulting, but left to pursue a master of divinity degree at HDS – graduating in 2000 – while also working with children in rural China. She founded the Gwen Moore Children of China Fund in 2002. Moore is also the chief capacity building officer for Volunteers of America Northern New England headquartered in Brunswick.

The First Decade Award was established in 1989 to recognize an HDS graduate from the past 10 years whose professional pursuits have demonstrated the values and skills developed at the divinity school, and “who is an inspiration and encouragement to all graduates to rededicate themselves to the values, hopes, and visions that led them to study at HDS and launched them into service since.”
