FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) – A man accused of killing a wheelchair-bound man by pushing him down a flight of stairs was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder.
Fred Dixon, 29, was convicted of killing Raymond Davila at the Ship’s Cove Apartment complex in Fall River, where both men lived, in June 2004.
Police said Dixon’s neighbor heard Davila scream from inside Dixon’s apartment just before she heard Davila’s wheelchair tumble down the stairs.
Investigators found Davila’s blood smeared on a wall separating Dixon’s apartment from his neighbor’s. They also found a baseball cap and beer bottle inside Dixon’s apartment. Dixon was seen holding the bottle in security photographs minutes before Dixon’s neighbor called police.
Felix Marrero was seen wearing the hat in surveillance photographs and both men are seen leaving the building through emergency exits as the police arrive on the scene.
Both men were charged with murder, but Marrero was acquitted earlier this month.
