LISBON – The public is invited to the town’s first inauguration of elected officials in formal ceremonies at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lisbon Community School on Mill Street.

The inauguration marks the official changeover from a town meeting form of government to a town council, as well as the first meeting of the new council.

Town Clerk Twila Lycette will administer the oath of office in swearing-in ceremonies. She also will administer the oath of office to the new Budget Advisory Board, which replaces the former Advisory Board.

Master of ceremonies will be longtime town meeting Moderator J. Michael Huston. The Lisbon Police Department Color Guard will present the colors and the invocation and benediction will be given by Pastor Steven DeGroft.

Former Selectman David Bowie, an advocate of changing to a town council, who also was vice chairman of the Charter Commission, will make opening remarks.

Once the council is sworn in, members will hold their first meeting. They will elect a chairman and vice-chairman, determine the date of their next meeting, consider transitional ordinances and other business. Closing remarks will be made by Curtis H. Lunt, town manager, followed by the benediction and retiring of flags by the color guard.

All those attending are invited to remain for refreshments at the conclusion of the meeting.
