SABATTUS – Selectmen and Charter Commission members announced there will be a special workshop next week to review the proposed charter.

The session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5.

With voters’ support, the commission raised and allocated $15,000 to pay for legal reviewing fees for the first draft.

Chairman Jon Meneally said the commission is ready to sit with selectmen and see what other issues need to be addressed before making the next move.

A town charter is a legal document outlining and defining the inner workings of a town government. Once drafted, voters decide in November whether to adopt the document.

The commission meets at the town office at 6 p.m. every first Wednesday and third Thursday of the month. For more information visit www.chartercommission.sabattus.net

The town office will be closed Tuesday, July 4, so selectmen will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, before the charter commission workshop. Selectmen’s Chairman Guy Desjardins said the only item on the agenda is public works’ summer help issue.
