PORTLAND – Youth Leadership: An often repeated and often underestimated term that describes what Rippleffect hopes to instill and nurture in students. Rippleffect is a community-based nonprofit organization promoting positive youth development through outdoor experiences.
The Youth Leadership Summit, in its sixth year, is the flagship achievement of Rippleffect’s evolution. Based on Cow Island, the summit immerses high school juniors (entering seniors) from Cumberland and York counties in a curriculum model that inspires them to conduct themselves with respect for the individual while respecting one’s immediate and global environment and shared natural resources.
Students are introduced to the concepts of local and global environment, and humanity, impacting leadership.
The following area students have been accepted to the 2006 summit: Erica Snow, Chelsey Tuttle DiTomaso, Sam Christy, Shaina Cabana, Nicole Marden, Nicole Egan, Kayla Taylor and Hannah Eastbrook, all of Gray-New Gloucester High School.
