INDIANAPOLIS – Two Maine junior race walkers from Maine earned All-American awards and positions on the USA Junior National Track and Field Team at Purdue University last weekend.

Boothbay graduate Lauren Forgues walked against the top girls in the country in a 10-kilometer. Forgues walked the fastest 10k of her life (53:56.73) to capture second place behind Katy Hayes (53:22.94), with a 26-second lead over third-place Tina Peters (54:22.44). Peters and Forgues battled for nearly the entire race.

This race caps a spectacular high school race walking career for Forgues as she heads on to the University of Maine to help fashion a very competitive racewalking component of both the indoor and outdoor track program.

Ellsworth graduate Michael Boucher, a relative newcomer to race walking, has found his niche. He finished third at the Nike Outdoor Championships in his first ever national scholastic competition.

He walked his first ever 10k in an excellent time of 55:14.42 to capture fifth place and earn his second all-American award this year, and a place on the USA Junior National Track and Field team.

Both Forgues and Boucher will represent the USA in a dual meet with Canada later this summer.
