RUMFORD – An unidentified Rumford police officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay until the town manager decides what, if any, action should be taken.

Police Chief Stacy Carter said a Rumford resident lodged a complaint against the officer on June 12, and the officer was then put on administrative leave.

Town Manager Steve Eldridge would not discuss the nature of the complaint.

An investigation by an “outside person” was conducted, with the results given to Eldridge on Wednesday. Neither Carter nor Eldridge would elaborate on the meaning of an “outside person,” nor discuss any other aspect of the case.

Eldridge said he had not had a chance to review the report by late Wednesday afternoon.

Once the report has been reviewed, he said he has the option of taking no action, issuing a reprimand, or firing the employee.
