Seniors to meet

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Hasty Community Center. Members should bring a bag lunch. Bingo will be played after lunch. Tickets will be on sale for the chicken barbecue on July 19. The price is $3.

There were 70 members at the June 21 meeting, presided over by President Caroline Chapman. Attendance winners were Bea Everett and Dodie Juneau. Pot of gold winners were Shirley Montgomery, Norma Masse and Nancy Roy.

Betty Hebert installed new officers: president, Caroline Chapman; vice president, Shirley Hawkins; recording secretary pro tem, Gerry Brushwein; treasurer, Gerry Brushwein; corresponding secretary, Lucy Cowles; chaplain, Pat Donahue; membership, Pat Edwards. Chairman of the board is Betty Hebert, and members are Dick Brushwein, Joanne Webb, Kay Deburra, Buzz Edwards and Marilyn Redmun.

Activities planned

LEWISTON – Modern Woodmen of America is sponsoring several activities in the coming weeks. Camp 12907 will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Taber’s Lakeside Stand on Lakeshore Drive, Auburn; Camp 8609, 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Roy’s Allsteak Hamburger, Center Street, Auburn; and Camp 10589, 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, at the Dairy Joy, Campus Avenue, Lewiston.

Tickets need to be purchased at the district office, 184 Webster St., for all activities and picked up a week prior to the event. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, excluding holidays.

Cancer program

LEWISTON – The Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center will present “Recovery and Long-Term Health Issues for the Young Adult Cancer Survivor” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the offices of Hematology-Oncology Associates, a CMMC-affiliated physician practice at 12 High St., Suite 205 Lewiston. The program is free and pre-registration is requested. Call Kerry Irish at 795-7118 to register.

Developed for individuals between the ages of 17 and 40 who have cancer, or the loved ones of a young adult with cancer, the program will offer an evening of networking, information and conversation.

Registered nurse Tamara English, a certified oncology nurse who holds a master’s degree, will present information and answer questions about cancer-related medical issues such as “chemobrain,” fatigue, neuropathies, obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes, risk of recurrence, screening and prevention and fertility.

School fundraiser

AUBURN – Lake Street School is finalizing its last order special on the Lake Street School Replica – Cat’s Meow Village. This special display piece has been a successful PTO fund raiser. The PTO is offering it to the community. Anyone interested in ordering, call Carla Gill at 577-7156. Replicas are $20 each and proceeds will benefit the new elementary school on Park Street, opening in August. The deadline for orders is July 20.

Card champs

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club held its quarterly club championship at the Multi-Purpose Center on June 27. Winners in Flight A were: first, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus; second, David Lock and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Mike Quinn and Luke Merry; fourth, Paul Sherman and Nancy Farmer. Winners in Flight B were: first, Paul Sherman and Nancy Farmer; second, Richard Balian and Richard Allen. There will be no game held on July 4th. The next Tuesday game will be held at the center on July 11th.

The club also held a quarterly club championship game on June 28 at Schooner Estates. Winners in Flight A were: first, Misha Tomic and Lucille Theriault; second, Richard Allen and Martha Young; third, Martine Begert and Mary Leahey.

Winners in Flight B were: first, Richard Allen and Martha Young; second, Bob Berry and Carolyn Robertson. Another game will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed. For further information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.
