PORTLAND – Four members of the Portland Sea Dogs have been selcted to participate in the 2006 Eastern League All-Star Game. Outfielder Tyler Minges, pitcher Chris Smith, infielders Chad Spann and Jeremy West will all be part of the mid-summer classic. The game wil be played Wednesday, July 12, at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona, Penn.

Minges began the year at Triple-A Pawtucket and joined the Sea Dogs on May 8. In 42 games with the team, Minges is hitting .303 with three home runs and 28 RBIs. He spent the 2005 season with the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

Smith currently leads the Eastern League with nine wins and ranks fifth in the league with a 2.27 ERA. Smith has made 15 starts for Portland this season, posting a 9-3 record.

Spann has appeared in 69 games for Portland this season and is hitting .289 with six home runs and 34 RBIs. He was named the league’s Player of the Week for May 29 through June 4.

West ranks fourth in the Eastern League in hitting at .310. In 67 games this season, he has tallied 19 doubles, seven home runs and has driven in 36 runs. The Las Vegas native is hitting .372 in the month of June, with four home runs and 15 RBIs.
