LISBON – The 8th Annual Androscoggin River Fun Race Sunday, July 9, is dedicated to the spirit of American Indians and is part of the town’s annual Moxie Festival.
Moxie is the official soft drink of Maine.
The six-mile course is mostly flat with possibly easy class 2 rapids depending on water level.
There are 10 categories. All extra lightweight canoes designed for racing, war canoes and doubles kayaks must register under the Weekend Warriors category.
Other categories are Male & Female Kayak, Solo F Canoe, Solo M Canoe, Tandem Males, Tandem Females, Tandem Mixed, +100 (ages of paddlers in the boat must total +100 years), Family (parents or guardians and their children under the age of 18)
There are first, second and third prizes for each category.
Race time is 11 a.m. starting at the Durham boat launch on Route 136; finish is at the Sabattus River Boat Park next to Route 196 in Lisbon Center.
Registration fee is $12 per person and includes picnic lunch and beverages at race end for all registrants. Race T-shirts go to those who preregister before Wednesday, July 5.
Race day registration starts at 9 a.m. All paddlers must wear an approved personal flotation devices.
Shuttle service will be available after the awards ceremony.
