AUBURN – A teenager escaped with minor injuries Thursday night when her car struck a moose on Route 4 near the Turner line.

Amanda N. Gunter, 18, of East Dixfield was examined for neck pain after the 9 p.m. crash. The moose ran off into the woods.

A passenger in Gunter’s car, 14-year-old Emily Corthell, was not hurt.

Police said Gunter was driving north on Route 4 when she struck the animal as it stood in the road. A section of Route 4 was closed briefly while emergency crews tended to Gunter, cleared the wreckage and searched for the injured moose. It was not found.

Damage to Gunter’s 1991 Lincoln was estimated at $1,000.
