Marchers needed

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Democratic Committee invites all Democrats to march in the July 4th parade. Meet at Mallett School at 9 a.m. that morning for instructions. Marchers are needed to carry signs. Following the parade, all are invited to a potluck picnic/county committee meeting at 109 Smiling Goat Lane at noon, assuming the parade is over.

The next Franklin County Committee meetings are on July 16 and Aug. 13, both at UMF North Dining Room C. Executive Committee at 4 p.m. Whole committee at 4:30.

Blood drive set

FARMINGTON – American Red Cross Blood Services blood drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, July 7, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital, 1 Hospital Drive.

Featured speaker

FARMINGTON – The Western Mountain Women’s Connection, a Christian women’s club, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, in the Bass Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Used wheelchairs

FARMINGTON – Wheels for the World volunteers will be at the Wal-Mart parking lot from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 22, to collect wheelchairs and other mobility aids, which will be restored and distributed to countries such as Ghana, India and Romania. Preparing to open

GREENWOOD – Greenwood Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at the historical building on Main Street. Members are asked to go early and help clean up the buildings for the open house, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday until Labor Day. Everyone is welcome.

Flea market set

CASCO – A flea market will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Casco Village Church lawn on Route 121.

Antique show

LOVELL – The seventh annual Lovell antique show and sale will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Kimball Stanford House. Admission is $3. Early buyer hours will be 7 to 8:30 a.m. and admission is $5. There will be free verbal appraisals on site for two items, a raffle including some prize antiques, and food and beverages. WEST PARIS – The West Paris Baptist and Mission Congregational Churches, Church Street, will host this year’s daily vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, July 10 to 14. A closing program will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Baptist Church.

Club trip

Mime performance

LEWISTON – Wednesdays In the Park continues to celebrate its 27th year with a performance at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, by Karen Montanaro “Tanzspiel” at the Lewiston Public Library. A master mime, ballet dancer and improviser, Montanaro transcends these art forms to speak the universal language of movement.

Guest speaker

AUBURN – Registered nurse Joanne Seifert, director of education for Beacon Hospice Inc., will be the featured speaker at the Friday, July 14, meeting of the Alzheimer’s Family Support Group at Clover Healthcare at 440 Minot Ave. The meeting will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Seifert will provide an overview of the Deep Harbors program, a unique and innovative new program developed by Beacon Hospice to help address the needs of end-stage dementia patients and their families.

The focus of the Deep Harbors program is to provide improved quality of life for patients and education and support for family members and caregivers.

Breastfeeding topic

AUBURN – Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to the La Leche League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome. This month’s discussion is titled “Breastfeeding:, Avoiding and Overcoming Difficulties,” and it will focus on concerns about preparing to nurse baby at birth and adjusting to babies’ changing needs.

Fellowship trip

LISBON – The Lisbon Area Merry Widow’s Fellowship will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 10, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church. From there they will travel to Beaver Park. Each person is to bring their own sandwich and something to share. If inclement weather, the group will remain at the church.

Society speaker

LISBON – Lisbon Historical Society will have as speaker for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, Toby Conroy, who will give a presentation on “Day Trips in Maine,” at the Lisbon Historical Society, Archive Museum, 18 School St., rooms five and six (use rear entry). Doors will open at 6:30. The public is welcome.

Picnic in park

LEWISTON – The Parent Resource Center, a program of Advocates for Children, is offering a free Picnic in the Park. Those interested should meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, at the B Street Community Center, 57 Birch St., Suite 204. Everyone will walk to the park together.
