RUMFORD – Dr. Albert Aniel, an internist on Rumford Hospital’s medical staff, has received a certificate of membership in the National Lipid Association.

The association is a professional organization enhancing the practice of lipid management in clinical medicine, particularly as it relates the diagnosis and treatment of high cholesterol.

Aniel practices with Drs. Thomas DeLuca and Jacob Ledesma at Western Maine Internal Medicine. In the mid-80s he established a “clot-busting” protocol in Maine to prevent or lessen the damage caused by heart attack, and has since set up other critical care protocols that are in wide use. Aniel lectures to other physicians on the latest findings and treatments for hypertension, lipid disorders and heart failure.

Aniel and his wife, Dr. Monique Aniel, live on an old homestead in Mexico where they have organic gardens and sheep. They enjoy cross-country skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities.
