TURNER – Frederick C. Benz, 80, a resident of Howes Corner Road in Turner, died very unexpectedly Sunday, July 2, at his home, where he had resided for two weeks.

He was formerly of Somers Point, N.J. He was born in New Rochelle, N.Y. on Oct. 25, 1925, the son of George F. and Bertha E. (Parker) Benz and attended the schools of New Rochelle, N.Y.

He married the former Joan Magnison in November 1955. She passed away in 1985.

During his career, he worked as an animator for Terry Toons and as a layout person for an advertising agency in New York.

In his spare time, Fred was also an author and researcher of the Civil War and had an extensive collection of Civil War memorabilia. He enjoyed his artwork, which included oil paintings and pen and ink drawings.

He is survived by three sisters, Barbara Goyette and her husband, Joseph, of Turner, Ann Warner and her husband, Jerry, of Castleberry, Fla., and Helen McCloud of Tennessee; a stepdaughter, June Ellis, of Somers Point, N.J.; and a grandson, Eric Ellis.

He was predeceased by two brothers, George L. Benz and Norman Benz.
