PERU – A 44-year-old Peru man was reported in critical condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston late Monday afternoon after a boat fell on him.
Mark Desmond of Sawyer Brook Road was apparently loading a boat onto his car hauler trailer at his home when it slid off, hit him and pinned him to the ground.
Peru Fire Chief Bill Hussey said the boat injured Desmond’s head and chest.
Desmond’s two young sons were with him at the time of the accident and called 911.
Hussey said firefighters lifted the boat off Desmond then set up a landing site for the LifeFlight helicopter that took him to the hospital. About 12 firefighters responded to the call as well as three Med-Care Ambulance Service employees.
Sawyer Brook Road is off Dickvale Road. The accident was called in about 1 p.m.
