WARREN (AP) – A 2-year-old girl who went missing into the woods was found alive and well Tuesday morning after a search by hundreds of volunteers.
Katie Grant was found sleeping on the ground with a 5-month-old puppy by her side shortly after 8 a.m. following a search by nearly 300 wardens, state police, sheriff’s deputies, volunteers and others, said Lt. Patrick Dorian of the Maine Warden Service.
The girl was a little scratched up but otherwise in good shape, Dorian said.
The girl and her family, who are from Sanford, were in Warren visiting friends at their Route 90 home on Monday.
The girl went missing shortly after 7 p.m. while her parents were preparing dinner, Dorian said. She apparently went into the woods with the puppy and an adult dog; the adult dog returned to the home Monday night, but the girl and the puppy did not.
The warden service used about 10 dog teams, two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft in the search.
