MINOT – The Minot Historical Society met recently at the West Minot Grange Hall when President Hester Gilpatric introduced the speaker, Bowman Sturtevant of the Hebron Historical Society.

Sturtevant spoke on the Western Maine Sanitarium, which was located at the top of Greenwood Mountain in Hebron. Four people in the audience introduced themselves as being patients at the sanitarium. They were Joseph Mills of Gorham, Winona Davenport of Phillips, Christine Hinkley of Turner and Nancy Weir Coccia of Port St. Lucie, Fla. Each of these people related some of their memories while patients at the facility.

The sanitarium was in use from 1901 to 1959 when the remaining patients were sent to the Fairfield facility.

The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the home of Becky and Bill Gould when a tour of the flower gardens will be given.
