SALEM – The Salem Fire Department Auxiliary and the Salem Pine Tree Club are seeking donations for the Salem Founder’s Day auction to be held Saturday, July 8, as part of Founder’s Day events. Narrow Gauge String Band will return to the Salem Community Building at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 9. The show will feature old-time country western music. A donation box will be at the door and homemade refreshments will be on sale. It is sponsored by the Salem Pine Tree Club.
Salem’s fifth annual farmer’s Founder’s Day will be held Saturday, July 8. The parade will start at 9 a.m. followed by ATV events in the field behind the store. From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., there will be a quilt and craft show at the church; flower show at the fire station; games in the field by the fire station; fry pan throw, wheelbarrow race, egg toss, three-legged race, hay bale toss, egg and spoon game and tire ball toss. Lumbering, pulp toss, cross cut, bucksaw, wood splitting will also take place.
At 11:30 a.m., a chili contest to be judged by the public; 12:30 p.m., pie eating contest; 1 p.m., awards and auction; 5 to 6:30 p.m., bean supper at the community building featuring beans, hot dogs, salads, homemade bread and desserts; and 6:30 p.m., A & E Hill country music at the fire station.
Other events will include coffee and doughnuts in the morning, hot dogs and hamburgers from the grill, bean bag toss and dunk tank.
