MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Adam Lind went 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Portland Sea Dogs 8-4 on Friday.
Dustin Majewski added a 3-for-3 outing as New Hampshire (38-47) sent Portland (49-35) to its third straight loss.
Jesse Litsch (1-0) earned the win, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one. Tracy Thorpe added three innings of one-hit relief with four strikeouts and two walks to pick up his sixth save.
Chris Smith (9-4) took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits over five innings, walking two and striking out seven. Chris Durbin paced Portland with two hits and knocked in two, while Luis Jimenez knocked in two more.
Portland jumped ahead 3-0 in the first thanks to a Jimenez two-run single and an RBI single from Durbin.
Lind answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run shot to cut the lead to 3-2 and the Fisher Cats took the lead for good in the fourth as a Lind sacrifice fly scored Vito Chiaravalloti and Tim Olson scored from third on a balk. Smith closed the four-run rally with a two-run shot and a 6-3 lead.
Durbin’s second RBI single scored Chad Spann to cut the lead to 6-4 in the sixth. Cannon answered with a leadoff solo shot in the seventh for a 7-4 cushion, and Olson later singled home Danny Solano to close out the New Hampshire scoring.
