CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – New Hampshire is one of just two states without a Job Corps center, but that may change.
The U.S. Department of Labor has plans to build a new $30 million jobs academy, and New Hampshire officials want it built here. New Hampshire and Wyoming are the only states without Job Corps centers.
Job Corps is a free vocational and educational training center for people ages 16 to 24. The program takes anywhere from eight months to two years, depending on the area of study. The proposed facility would accommodate 300 students.
There already are 122 centers elsewhere in the country. Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., has pushed for priority to be given to states that don’t already have centers.
