Auburn – Willie Dean Boothby, 87, formerly of 438 Court St., passed away on July 6, at Clover Manor.
She was born in Georgia on March 13, 1919, daughter of James and Annie Davis Clack. Married to Norman R. Boothby on Sept. 23, 1940, they were blessed with 42 years of happy marriage until his passing in October 1982. Willie and her husband especially enjoyed round and square dancing. In 1956, she became a crossing guide for Merrill Hill School and later Lake Street School, where she crossed many generations of Auburn school students. She retired at the age of 78 after more than 40 years.
Willie was an excellent seamstress and proficient at many crafts including painting and egg decorating. For many years she belonged to the Androscoggin Arts and Crafts Guild. She collected dolls and antiques and enjoyed auctions and garage sales. Everyone loved her great cooking as well as flowers and vegetables from her gardens. She was a member of the Auburn Methodist Church Ruth Circle.
Willie will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Bayna and her fianc, Gary Beal, of Maryland, Brenda of Portland and Debra and her husband, Bob Goulet, of Orrington; sons, Gary and wife, Betsey, of Litchfield and Dale of Auburn, with whom she made her home prior to her illness; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; brothers, J.D. and Dilmus of Michigan and Harold of Georgia; sister, Evelyn Boss also of Georgia; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dolores Blanchard of Auburn was a great and loving friend who helped care for her at home.
Willie was predeceased by her parents; and a sister, Pauline.
