CANTON – A 23-year-old Peru woman was in fair condition early Friday night at Central Maine Medical Center after a two-car crash on Route 108 that morning.

Amanda Harkness was flown to the Lewiston hospital shortly after the 10:45 a.m. accident. A 9-month-old boy, a 5-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl riding in her 2000 Ford Explorer were transported by Med-Care Ambulance Service to Rumford Hospital, where they were treated and released.

Four teenagers riding in a 2000 Jeep Cherokee were also transported to Rumford Hospital, where they were treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Maine State Trooper Daniel Hanson said Harkness was making a left turn out of a driveway near the Canton/Peru town line and was attempting to head south on state Route 108 when her vehicle struck the driver’s side of the Cherokee driven by Lindsey Bourget, age 16, of Lewiston, who was driving north. With Bourget were a 14-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old boy.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Canton Fire and Rescue, and the Peru Fire Department responded to the accident, along with Med-Care Ambulance. The two fire departments rerouted traffic for about 90 minutes from Route 108 onto the River Road.
